I want to keep the ball rolling when it comes to the topic of Viral Videos, because I think they're awesome, and powerfully effective.
So this week I want to show you one of my favorites that I must warn you is controversial, and it could be offensive to some viewers (I just think it's hilarious).
But first I want to share with you the technique that caused this video's creation to come about. It has to deal with a movie that star's Samuel L. Jackson, called "Snakes on a Plane".
This movie that could've easily been a bomb at the box office, become a huge success due to leveraging the internet crowds and launching a very successful Viral marketing campaign. You see, there was already a bit of buzz being built online due to the title of the movie and the fact that Samuel L. Jackson was starring in it.
To step up the campaign and make it viral, they created a contest, where-by they offered music artists a chance to get their song onto the soundtrack! For many amateur musicians, this is a potential golden opportunity, and many of them started making music video's for songs called "Snakes on a Plane". As these entries started coming in, the music videos started showing up on YouTube.com, and many became instant Viral Videos. Some of them are more serious, while others are just freakin' hilarious! Of course these videos all became super viral as internet viewers forwarded them to all their friends, and thus the viral effect spread massively at a fast pace.
So what can we learn from this technique? Well how 'bout offering a contest to people for creating some sort of viral video's and awarding the best video's a cash prize or other prize as incentive. Give them just a title to work with that matches your keywords and name of your website, business, or whatever you're promoting.
Perhaps you could even create a contest for your employees to see who can earn the next big promotion or raise.
The technique is scalable, and if you use your creativity, I'm sure you can leverage it and save yourself some money in creating viral videos yourself.
Anyways, I know you're probably dying to see this crazy controversial funny viral video for Snakes on a Plane! So here's the Link:
"All Your Snakes Are Belong to Us"If you want to read more about Snake on a Plane, just visit the Wikipedia link that also links to some of the other viral videos that were created.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snakes_on_a_PlaneThe reason I chose to show you this one, is because it is a great example of using humor, controversy, and extraordinarly strange imagery.
It also plays on a video that became viral in the past called "All Your Base Are Belong to Us". That viral video had already been a proven success in the past advertising nothing, but was based on the funny Japanese-English translations (Also called Engrish by some) of a video game cut-scene.
Anyways, "All Your Snakes are Belong to Us", uses various types of funny scenes and characters and actors from famous movies that would appeal to fans for the movie. I think it's a well-done video that could certainly spark some of your creative juices.
Peace and Prosperity,
Jambhala Rinpo
